In fact, our factories are equipped with modern sewage treatment plants and disposal of production residues .
Plant wastewater treatment plant
The plant was built for over twenty years and , over time , has undergone the necessary adaptations to the changing needs of society.
It , to date, is intended to pre- treatment of waste water the plant, before they are placed in the collector consortium of the City of Montebello, for an average volume of 1350 cubic meters. per working day.
The treatment involves the following cycles:
1 ) Recovery of chromium from spent tanning baths and reuse of the same within the tannery .
2 ) Reduction of the protein load of the water coming from liming baths and recovery of the protein through filter- panel .
3 ) Physico-chemical treatment of water finishing .
4 ) Biological oxidation with activated sludge treatment of the remaining water .
These operations are fully automated to further guarantee the safety and pollution prevention to possible reactions .
Each process is aimed at obtaining the highest level of environmental protection.
For example , the water coming from the liming casks are stored in a special tank capacity of about 180 cubic meters where it is expected the chemical oxidation of the slurry by liquid oxygen. In particular we obtain the almost complete killing of the sulfide present in the baths.
The oxidation reaction is controlled by a measurement of the redox potential which controls the dosage of oxygen , together with the measurement of the redox potential in the mixture .
Since oxidation basin , the slurry is transferred to the next section by means of centrifugal pump. The remaining volume of about 100 cubic meters per day, is sent directly to the line of the biological treatment of industrial sewage . The water drainage , resulting from dehydration , characterized by a pH value of acid , is conveyed into the biological line .
In consequence to the recovery of liming baths , the physical-chemical treatment of the water and the finishing of the recovery of the exhausted baths of tanning , you get a decrease in the load input equal to about 40% of the total load.
The residual organic substances belong to two classes :
substances derived from the degradation of the skin and substances that are used in the production process of the leather.
The first are those quantitatively most important and constitute the greater part of the COD ( chemical oxygen demand ) in the entry to the system where they are metabolised and reduced to carbon dioxide, water and ammonia , then oxidized by other microorganisms , to nitrite , nitrate and subsequently reduced to nitrogen gas . In the second class are instead represented all those substances derived from chemicals , such as tallow, tanning , retanning and dyes that were not fixed by the skin.
One of the main features is their biodegradability , more or less high , which makes possible the purification through biological treatments .
Biological phenomena are behind the development of purification processes used for our tannery wastewater .
The aerobic biological treatment applied by us is based initially on a bacterial growth that uses organic pollution as food substrate at the expense of an oxygen consumption is proportional to the amount of pollution present in the wastewater .
That biological treatment is therefore essentially a technology based on natural phenomena facts play in artificially created environments , ( oxidation ponds ) where the different parameters , which influence the phenomena themselves , can be adjusted in an optimal way , consistent with the limits dictated by motives construction , space , cost or performance as a function of table limits in force.
The basin of the oxidation capacity of 1500 cubic meters is equipped with two surface aerators able to make 50 kg / h of oxygen , three aerators superficial type of capacity of 27 mc / h and a plant for the dissolution of 100 kg / h of dissolved oxygen ( patent Vitox ) .
Decanting is entrusted to two decanters circular with a diameter of 12 meters.
In support of the system there is also a thickening of excess sludge capacity of about 100 cubic meters.
